"Each Guest, Every Visit": The AGLIOLIO Story
We opened our first AGLIOLIO location quietly in Wellington in October 2009, unlocking the doors, switching on the neon "OPEN" sign, and waiting to see who might stroll in. At some point, the door swung open and a couple entered. Several of us watched as they glanced around the restaurant, met their eyes as they noticed the empty tables, and waved awkwardly as they took a takeout menu and retreated quietly. Momma Donna quickly followed them out and somehow convinced them to come back, returning with laughter. We scrambled into action, greeting, seating, and serving, marveling as more parties came through the doors, filling table after table. We probably served fewer guests that entire day than we do in an hour on an average night today, but that was where it all began – our singular focus on impressing *each guest, every visit*.
In the days and weeks that followed, we took Momma Donna's philosophy to the streets, pounding the pavement through nearby communities, introducing ourselves and handing out takeout menus, inviting guests to visit. We rose early on Saturdays and Sundays to set up booths at local greenmarkets, then cleaned up and rushed back to the restaurant, hoping to see familiar faces for dinner. Somehow, it worked.
There's a lot more to the story, of course, but we'll pause here to say this: it began with one restaurant, one couple, one visit, one conversation with Momma Donna, and one opportunity for a first impression.
Over the years, we have grown as a business and as a family - an AGLIOLIO Family. Countless people have entered our restaurants as guests and left as friends — ambassadors, even — spreading word organically through the community verbally at first, and then on social media, filling our dining rooms for occasions from the everyday to the once-in-a-lifetime. We've hosted and catered everything from Sunday afternoon luncheons to Tuesday night dinners to proposals, weddings, showers, banquets, and memorials — including one for our beloved "Momma Donna."
Aside from her family (including three beautiful grandchildren who she loved to show off any chance she could), nothing brought Donna more pride or gave her greater purpose than walking through our dining room, sharing in so many moments, occasions, and celebrations with our community, and playing "Nonna" to so many local children. From our time-tested recipes to our comfortable yet energetic atmosphere to our unwavering commitment to OUTSTANDING service, Donna's vision has always been, and will continue to be, brought to life daily by our incredible team, who TRULY represents the "Best of Florida" (and beyond) — Momma Donna wouldn’t have stood for anything less.
We've come a long way over the years, but one thing hasn't changed: our singular focus on impressing *each guest, every visit* with outstanding, scratch-made food and drinks, professionally served in our clean, comfortable dining rooms or, as we've grown and pivoted with the times, even in the comfort of your own vehicle or home!
Just as the kitchen is the heart of every Italian household, Momma Donna's legacy is, and will always be, the heart of AGLIOLIO.
